Book 27/50
I’m a firm believer that you should never be embarrassed by what you’re reading. If what you’re reading makes you happy, then go for it. That being said, I will admit that the Jason Priestley autobiography isn’t literary by any means (not that I ever would have expected it to be), and I did seek it out with a feeling of nostalgia clouding my intentions.
Overall, as I read the memoir, I felt like I was simply having a conversation with the old 90210 star. (The cheesy zip and postal codes at the beginning of the chapter also added to the casual tone of the book). Priestley comes off as a nice, polite Canadian guy who would stick his hand out and introduce himself to anyone, anywhere. And, I’ll admit, while I was hoping for some juicy behind-the-scene 90210 scandals, Priestly merely breezed over the cast’s romantic relationships with one another and focused primarily on their friendships, his relationship with Aaron Spelling, and what it was like to become a rising star.
And truth be told, there was a lot I didn’t realize about Jason Priestley. (Spoiler Alert): He lived with Brad Pitt, Bradley Cooper attended his wedding, he’s partied with U2 and Barenaked Ladies on multiple occasions, Dean Mcdermott refused to speak to him, and Mischa Barton and her mother snubbed him… a few times. Priestley’s had an interesting life with challenges and triumphs, and while overall, the content was underwhelming, it’s a quick, mildly entertaining read for anyone who wants to travel back in time… You know, to the pre-Twitter days of ‘mom jeans’ (which are unfortunately back in style) and shows like 90210 and Melrose Place were in their prime.
Added Gossipy Bonus: As nice as Jason is, he confirms that there is no dancing around the fact that Shannen Doherty was a nightmare to work with. I guess you have to draw the politeness line somewhere.

He was once quoted as saying “the script in Titanic was so bad I kept expecting me to walk in”. Classic!
