Book 10 of 2016
Well, I accidentally skipped ahead in the The Tales From The Shadowhunter Academy series. Oops! This time around I read Book #9 Born to Endless Night and I loved it! If you don’t want some mild spoilers, stop reading now. (I know I don’t usually write spoilers, but it’s rather hard when reviewing novellas).
The reason I enjoyed Born to Endless Night so much is because the entire story took place in Idris, present-day. There were no flashbacks or tales from long ago; everything was in the here and now. Simon is seen as a kind, good person and has won the respect of his classmates and instructors. He seems to be remembering more and more, which is especially great news for Izzy and Clary.
This novella is one of the last in the series, and in addition to Simon, it showcased many of my favorite characters from The Mortal Instruments series. Clary, Jace, Magnus and the Lightwoods were all gathered in Idris when a warlock baby appeared on the doorstep of the Institute. Magnus and Alec (Alec, especially!) fell in love with the orphan baby, and the rest of the story is heartwarming and sweet. (I can’t give everything away, so you’ll have to read the ending for yourself). The compassion between Magnus and Alec in this novella also ties in nicely with last week’s Shadowhunters TV series episode, titled Malec, which focused on Magnus and Alec’s blossoming relationship .
I’m definitely going to read the rest of the novellas in this series before continuing on to Lady Midnight. Have you read the The Tales From The Shadowhunter Academy books? What did you think? Drop me a line and let me know!
