Nothing But Shadows is the fourth book in the Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy novella series. This is another one of the books in the series which takes the readers outside of Simon’s world and into the past.
I mentioned in my The Whitechapel Fiend review that I didn’t love the past account of Jack the Ripper, but I did enjoy the story in Nothing But Shadows about James Herondale. I found James Herondale’s tale sweet and endearing, and the story of his friendships at Shadowhunter Academy was a nice, light read.
Reading this series is great for me right now, as I have a new baby and need to be up every few hours at night. This style of tale is great for when I need to wake up bleary-eyed and feed the baby; I can easily pick it up and dive right in.
