A Le Grand Fizz in one hand and our printed itinerary in the other, Whitney and I sit at the airport, still shaking our heads in disbelief. We’re heading on a once-in-a-lifetime time adventure to Le Logis, a 17th century country manor, tucked away in the region of Cognac, France. It’s also the home of Grey Goose.
Let me back up a bit, and explain how this trip came to be:
My friend and colleague Whitney Bloom and I are both members at Soho House (a members club for creatives), and they held a competition at all of their North American locations: create a summer brand plan for Grey Goose vodka. They asked members to submit a proposal, answering the question “How would you live your best summer with Grey Goose?” Whitney and I, on a whim, decided to submit an integrated brand campaign with multiple touch points, a custom hashtag and a social calendar. We highlighted who we are, and why Grey Goose and Soho House should pick us. We got the call that we made it to the Finals, and then we presented to the panel, which included Soho House and Grey Goose representatives. The presenting experience was exhilarating; there were lots of great ideas and creatives in one room sipping Le Fizz cocktails; we decided then and there that it was an inspiring and fun experience, regardless of the outcome.
The outcome, however, was in our favor. When we found out via Instagram that we won, Whit and I called one another crying… in shock! And now, Whitney and I are on our way to experience the Grey Goose distillery in Cognac, where we will take mixology classes, sip drinks by the pool, engage in bread making, bike around the vineyards, and learn about the entire Grey Goose process, along with everything the brand stands for.
Part of our campaign includes me writing a series of summer blog posts, titled Write.Eat.Drink.Repeat, and I’ll be not only detailing our experience to share with everyone in hopes of encouraging everyone to live their best summer, but also to pair hot summer reads with our favorite of the Grey Goose cocktails we’ll be learning about on our trip.
Our custom hashtag is #SoarThisSummer, a playful hashtag that incorporates our theme (say YES to fun this summer in order to live YOUR best summer!) and of course, the Grey Goose bird logo. We want everyone to #soarthissummer, whether it’s in your backyard at a BBQ, at a friends cottage, with your family on a hike, or hanging out on your own at a cafe on a trendy street. We hope you sign up for that class you’ve been meaning to take, meet that friend for cocktails that you’ve been meaning to reconnect with, or go for a goal that’s completely outside your comfort zone. We’ll be sharing our hashtag on social media, and now that you know what it means, we hope you will too.
I’m nervous and excited for the next few days: we’ll be meeting new friends from all over North America that also won, not to mention learning a ton from the charming Grey Goose creator Francois Thibault, who we’ll also be presenting our campaign to. Being Canadian, Whitney and I can speak a little French, but I don’t think my accent or my use of verb conjugations will be anything the team at Le Logis will be impressed with. I imagine my bread-making skills will also be sub par. But that’s okay! We’ll just have to wing it… and that’s the point!
We’ll be sharing our journey in France and once we’re home as well. We hope to live our best summer and take chances in hopes of soaring- and we hope you enjoy following our adventure and do the same!
